Camera Skills

The Exposure Triangle

Aperture: The hole in a lens through which the light travels into the camera body. It's measured in "f-stops" (f/2.8). ISO: The level of sensitivity of your camera to available light. The lower the ISO number, the less sensitive it is to light, while a higher ISO number increases the sensitivity of your camera (Higher number - more light). Shutter Speed: Also known as "exposure time", stands for the length of time a camera shutter is open to expose light into the camera sensor. It's measured in fractions of a second. If the shutter speed is high, it can help to freeze the action and if it's low it creates the effect called "motion blur". White Balance: Adjusting colour so that the image looks more natural. White balance is the process of removing unrealistic colour casts so that the objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo.

We practiced filming using different camera angles and shot types. To do that we filmed an action using 3 different shot types and 3 different angles for each shot type while keeping the camera completely still the entire time.

We practiced motion tracking as well.

The lighting in the video is very inconsistent because of the weather that day and I was not able to correct it. In some shot the sun is on his right and the lighting in those shots is dramatically different compared to the rest. We could not film it differently because the continuity would have been lost have we moved someplace else. In the future I would try to avoid filming in open locations such as the park.
