Synopsis (Idea Outline)
A documentary crews follows a couple of friends in their search of a mysterious moth-like creature that they claim to have seen crawling on the outside of an apartment building.
Idea
A young documentary filmmaker and her cameraman follow two 2 girls as they try to find out what the mysterious moth-like creature that they saw on the footage of the camera they have installed on their balcony is. Despite the filmmaker insisting that the thing is actually just a bug that landed on the camera lenses, the girls insist that it's more malicious than that. As their investigation unravels and the filmmaker gets to know the girls better, it becomes obvious that they will not accept any evidence that discredits their theory that it's a cryptid.
Genre
I want my short film to be a mockumentary/comedy. Despite the main subject of the film being a cryptid, I want the film to be lighthearted. Some of the shows that I take inspiration from for the theme of my film are The Office, Parks and Recreation, Mountain Monsters and Trailer Park Boys. Some of the elements of the first two that I would like to use is the way the audience is shown a ridiculous event then we are shown the characters react to it and their commentary.
Trailer Park Boys and Mountain Monsters have a film crew following a cast of peculiar characters around. The latter for example has a group of people attempting to hunt down cryptids based on minimal evidence of their existence.
