Institutions & Logo

An institution (in the film industry) Definition: any company or organisation that produces, distributes or exhibits films. Media business covers commercial functions such as finance, distribution, exhibition and retailing, as well as production.

HBO

Founded in 1972 the on-demand channel's shows have been widely acclaimed. Their shows often feature controversial themes, particularly their documentaries, that you would not see on cable TV. Those documentaries deal with a wide range of topics and often stir a lot of controversy, such as Citizen Four (regarding the Edward Snowden controversy), The Jinx, and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief (regarding one of the most controversial "religions" today, notorious for taking legal action against people who speak out against the church). [1] According to their mission statement HBO "maintains unrivaled reputations as homes for creativity and excellence, with brands and leading scale that attract the best talent and ideas, and allow creative talent and journalists to realize their visions and share them with the world." They look to expand their distribution across platforms and grow worldwide. [2]

Netflix

In 2014 Netflix' CEO published a SlideShare where he outlines the company's core values as: Judgement, Innovation, Courage, Passion, Communication, Honestly, Selflessness, Impact, Curiosity, Courage [3] The streaming service has a lot of original content. Unlike cable TV, there's a lot more diversity in Netflix' Originals catalogue in shows such as Orange is the New Black, Sense8, The Get Down, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones (all directors of Season 2 will be women [4]). [5]

Amazon Instant Video

While not yet on par with other streaming and on demand providers, Amazon Video has been expanding its catalogue in the past couple of years. What differentiate Amazon Instant Video from Netflix is that it also allows its users to watch shows from HBO as a pay-per-view service and includes a lot of extras to its subscribers. Some of their shows include Transparent, The Man in the High Castle, Mozart in the Jungle, Mr. Robot and Preacher. A lot of those shows are adaptations of already acclaimed books and/or comic series (ex. The Man in the High Castle is based on a novel by Philip K. Dick and Preacher is based on comic book series published by Vertigo). Their aim is "to be Earth’s most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover anything they might want to buy online.” [6]

All three services provide instant access to original content. Personally I prefer streaming platforms because they are often more open and inclusive than traditional broadcast networks. [8] I prefer Netflix specifically because it's more affordable than HBO Go and has better original content than Amazon Instant Video. Even thought its movie catalogue is smaller than Amazon Instant Video and it doesn't have any of the Prime membership benefits, I feel like a lot more people use Netflix than Amazon Instant Video so the Netflix shows are a lot more talked about and you can easily find someone to discuss the shows because they are so much more popular.

Media institutions need to objectify their audiences to satisfy their advertisers. They need to satisfy their advertisers because in most cases they depend on their revenue for survival and profit. The raison d’être of the audience is to provide cash for the media organizations to continue to operate. More specific descriptions of audiences emphasize this view. At the production level, the institution makes contact with the audience in various ways. So the makers of documentaries or the writers of articles will be going out to the public to gather material. Logo Planning and Mission Statement

Mission Statement Mission and Values We strive to keep the old technique of stop-motion relevant by continuously adapting to the ever-changing animation industry and the audience's demands for original content. We believe that stop-motion animation movies are a breath of fresh air in genre that's being hijacked by the fast to produce 3D animation. Core Values Collaboration Allowing independent artist to take active role in the storytelling allows us to stray away from the formulaic movies and explore different approaches to animation and storytelling and tell unique and diverse stories.

Production

The white text on white background can be a bit hard to see. Animation would make the logo more lively.
