Practical - New Wave

I will be using Breathless (À bout de souffle) by Jean-Luc Godard as an inspiration for my teaser trailer. I chose this film because of the whimsical and carefree nature of Michel's character and because the freedom the French New Wave gives me to interpret the events of the film and adapt them into a piece that has a touch of my own style and ideas.

The particular scene that made me want to use this movie shows how selfish and indifferent with Patricia's emotions Michel is. My ideas is to take his monologue and expand on it, portraying a character who is obsessed with a woman but cannot see how disturbing their insistence is. The story would be told through the perspective of the main character and the audience only ever gets to know the woman through his biased description of her. The voiceover would be constant, a way to portray how he is too preoccupied with himself to stop and listen to her. When he talks about her, she would be the centre of the shot, with the use of close-ups and extreme close-ups to highlight his obsession but she's never seen fully in frame. The lighting in the shots would be concentrated on the woman, everything else around shrouded in shadows to show he is unaware of his surrounding and only focuses on her.

Dialog: "I love a girl with a lovely neck, with lovely back, with lovely shoulders, with lovely hands, with a lovely mouth and a lovely voice. Alas she is a blind idiot..."
